Fresh, New Craig
Craig Ferguson is back at CBS Television City in Los Angeles for some all-new episodes of the Late Late Show.  February is one of the television ratings “sweeps” periods, so that means new shows, great guests and plenty of laughs.  Did we mention that Daniel Radcliffe is on the show this week?  How about William Shater?  And then there’s that Beatles guy.  He’ll be talking with Craig and performing on Tuesday.  Oh yes, it’s Ringo Starr!  It’s a great week for America, everybody.

More from Omaha and Oklahoma
The RSA”s @JessNormal was at Craig’s shows in Omaha, NE on Wednesday and Thackerville, OK on Saturday. She sent us a story about her experiences. There are a few mild spoilers, so skip right on by if you’d rather not hear about what happens in Craig’s live show. Otherwise, just click on the arrow to read more:

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”Nebraska to Oklahoma (Some mild spoilers)”]
I was very fortunate to be able to attend two of Craig’s stand up shows this past week. The first show was in Omaha, NE (or “O-Ma-Ha” as Craig kept saying in a very low voice) and the second in Thackerville, OK.

I was thrilled that Craig had come to O-Ma-Ha (again)! Craig did a hilarious announcement over the speakers and then introduced Ted Alexandro. Ted’s set was very funny. This is the first time I had seen Ted perform and I hope it won’t be the last. Then Craig came bounding onto the stage (standing ovation from us). Much of the Omaha crowd seemed a little slow to warm up, but Craig seemed to love the challenge and improvised as needed – to some hilarious results! The give and take with the audience continued through his set and by the end, everyone was laughing with him!

On to Thackerville. There was a good showing of RSA at the Thackerville show; many in rows AA and BB (just behind the high rollers’ seats, whom we contemplated invading for a short time, until they happily filled). It was great to see everyone! Craig introduced Ted from backstage, along with a story, and out Ted came. The middle of Ted’s set was different than in Omaha, which was really fun! It is neat to watch the difference in stage presence between Ted and Craig. Ted is mostly calm and quiet, while Craig is, of course, very animated and loves to move and pace. Ted seems to be a perfect opener for Craig. Ted was through and then Craig came running out and we were instantly on our feet. He waved everyone back to their chairs after a good solid minute or two of applause, then started in on the mostly European collection of “facades” on the front of the casino, before settling into his set. He moved some bits around, and there were some subtle changes too. A man in the audience whistled randomly and Craig decided that he would master the art of ‘penis whistling’, which continued throughout the rest of the show! Craig did a couple of nice callbacks to some of Ted’s material too, which really tied their performances together nicely – and the crowd noticed! Randomly throughout the show, Craig raced across the stage, dodging imaginary (or were they?) scope-equipped snipers, depending on who he may have ‘offended’.

We had so much fun laughing along with Craig! Another truly fantastic show![/stextbox]

Along with her story, @jessnormal was able to get some great pictures of Craig on stage at the WinStar:

The RSA’s @VictoriaMIbanez also took some pictures of Craig on Saturday night. Here are some of the best:

Gateway Great

Meanwhile, the RSA’s @purrlady77 was in the front row for Craig’s show in St. Louis on Tuesday.  Here is her story:

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”More from St. Louis (Some mild spoilers)”]
I had front row seats to Craig’s show in St. Louis. He was hysterical. The Pageant was very cold that night, kind of like the CBS studio. Craig commented that he found the Southern accents from his previous tour stops impenetrable. He also let the audience know there would be plenty of cursing tonight with no “tutsi-fruitsi”.

He talked about what it’s like to have a baby living in his house and how’s it all about screaming and poo. You can’t reason with a baby; they just cry over the top of you. He said it’s like living with Glenn Beck. Craig gave a female audience member some grief when she had to leave several times to use the restroom. He told the audience, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if all of us could go hide somewhere while she’s in there”.

He also gave me some grief for taking so many photos of him. He said he’d been a welder and I should take as many as I liked. I guess my camera flash got to him.

Editors note: @purrlady makes an important point: Cameras are usually allowed at most of Craig’s shows unless the theater where he is performing bans them for all of their shows. However, the general rule is that cameras are allowed without flash. Flashes can get distracting for any performer, so we strongly recommend making sure your flash is turned off. The stage lighting is usually sufficient to get a good picture, as we’ve seen from many of the photos submitted this week. We wouldn’t want to take advantage of Craig’s good nature. 🙂 [/stextbox]

Keeping Entertained
When Late Late Show producer Michael Naidus has a long flight from the east coast back to LA, does he use that time to think deep, producer-y thoughts? Apparently so:

Cross country flight? 6 hours // Angry birds. 5 hours.

Downton Abbey Addition
Joining the cast of the popular British ITV show Downton Abbey for its third season will be actress Shirley MacLaine, as the Washington Post reports.

White Hot
Who won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a TV Comedy Series?  None other than Betty White!  She has won the award two years in a row for her work on the show Hot in Cleveland.  The Los Angeles Times reported on her win and she gave a gracious acceptance speech.

Fresh New Shows
Craig Ferguson is back in the saddle at CBS Television City in Los Angeles, for fresh new episodes of the Late Late Show.

Craig in Oklahoma
The RSA”s @colleen_byrne was among the enthusiastic crowd watching Craig perform at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, OK on Saturday night. She wrote about show and is sharing it with us. There are some mild spoilers, so if you are planning to see Craig live soon and don’t want any details about his act, you might want to move on to the photos. If you don’t mind, just click on the arrow:

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”A Night in Thackerville (Some mild spoilers)”]
Iceland is in the north Atlantic. Its capital city is Reykjavík.

Just setting the scene! 😉

The Robot Skeleton Army was well represented at Craig’s show in Thackerville, with a bunch of us concentrated in rows AA and BB, right behind the high roller VIP seats. As the theater filled but those VIP seats still sat empty, we contemplated mounting an attack to take the seats for ourselves. Happily, and probably lucky for us, the seats were filled and the anticipation was high for the start of the show.

Ted Alexandro opened the show after an offstage introduction from Craig. I think he’s a really good opener for Craig because their deliveries are so different. Ted speaks quietly and doesn’t move around much and Craig of course is all over the place. Ted did a great set highlighted by stories about his former career as a grade school music teacher. Craig even threw in a few callbacks to Ted’s material in his own set and the crowd loved it.

After Ted, Craig introduced himself and came out on stage running like he did at the beginning of Does This Need to Be Said. We all leapt to our feet as Craig talked about the weirdness of the façades at the Winstar Casino. He looked great in a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up, khakis and his favorite black boots that he wore for the Paris shows.

He added some more details to some bits and left out some others but the funniest part of the show was his reaction to some dude in the crowd who whistled at a quiet moment. Somehow, in typical Craig fashion, that whistle turned into Craig wondering if he could teach his penis to whistle, and he made himself laugh along with all of us. He kept going back to it and giggling every time. He was having so much fun with it that at one point, he really cracked up and said to us, “You fuckers are funny! You’re making me laugh!”

We were all having such a fun time, including Craig, that after he told his show-ending joke, he seemed to want to hang around on stage and talk a little more. With our encouragement, he stayed on stage for a bit longer but finally said his goodbyes. But he couldn’t find the break in the curtain where he was supposed to exit. He walked all over the stage, laughing at himself, until he turned to us and said, “I can’t seem to get off” and yes, he then slinked to the front of the stage as he said, “Can someone help me to get off?” followed by a cheeky grin and a wave and “goodnight everybody!”

Volcano HQ?
The RSA’s @HoboRobot spotted a video of a house atop a volcano in California that is up for sale. We’re not sure if the volcano is hollowed out but it has the look of a Bond villain-style hideout. Our apologies for the built-in commercial.

This Week’s Guests

David Milch

All-new episodes of the Late Late Show return this week, beginning Monday with actor Don Cheadle and actress Andrea Riseborough.  Tuesday, we’ll get to enjoy an interview and performance from Ringo Starr.  Wednesday, actor William Shatner returns to the show.  Actor Daniel Radcliffe headlines Thursday’s show, along with comedian Mark Forward.  And on Friday, Craig welcomes actress Rachel Bilson and writer/producer David Milch.

Heading Home To LA
Craig Ferguson is heading back to Los Angeles after wrapping up the first leg of his 2012 Live Comedy Tour across the Southeast and Midwest. The next confirmed date on his stand up calendar is New York City in the fall but there are sure to be more stops in between.  As soon as we hear details, we’ll be sure to post all of the information here, so you can be among the first to get tickets.  When he got to Thackerville, Craig sent a picture from in front of  a “facade” as Craig’s driver last year called it (the casino’s elaborate exterior walls designed to look like architectural attractions from around the world), using what was surely a familiar landmark after his years of living in and around London:

http://twitpic.com/8cwg6g In Oklahoma surrealism is embraced wholeheartedly

Meanwhile, the folks at the WinStar World Casino tweeted a picture of the stage just moments before show time on Saturday night.  Craig has made the big theater at the WinStar a regular stop in recent years, often early in a tour to work out and refine new material as he prepares for his next comedy special.

Also tweeting from the theater Saturday was the RSA’s @kstene who got some nice seats.  We’ve heard of several robot skeletons attending Saturday’s show and we hope to be able to share some of their stories with you.

A Great Time in Wichita
Among the many people enjoying the sold-out show in Wichita, Kansas on Friday night was the RSA’s @patsyterrell who did a great write up about the show in her blog, along with some fun pictures from the stage.

Hipster Haven
After seeing Craig’s tweet that Wichita, Kansas has hipster cred like Austin, Texas, the RSA’s @VincentWaller72 imagined the scene:

Chicken Car
For those who have been following Craig since he first got on the Tweety, you may remember at one point he tweeted a photo of a car designed to look like a big yellow chicken.  (Yeah, we saved it… we’re weird like that.)  The RSA’s sharp-eyed @ForeverKith noticed something interesting in a recent McDonald’s commercial for its new menu item, Chicken McBites.  Watch closely toward the end:

Late January Birthdays
Saturday, January 28th marks the birthdays of actor John Banner (Sgt. Schultz of Hogan’s Heroes), artist Jackson Pollock and actor Alan Alda.  Sunday, January 29th is the birthday of President William McKinley, actor Tom Selleck and the one and only Oprah Winfrey.

Special Thanks
[stextbox id=”custom” bgcolor=DBF7D8]Our thanks to the many Craig Ferguson fans who have contributed stories, photos, tweets and tips this week. When Craig is on tour “in your region,” everything you share helps thousands of Craig’s fans get a taste of what it’s like to see Craig in person. Thanks to Craig, Ted Alexandro and Phil Cottone for their great photos and tweets this week and special thanks to the RSA’s @doxieone1, @HMSFox, @shananigan93, @GlitteryGirrll, @bgrhubarb, @adnamay, @Malinky2Stoatir, @MissGraoully, @susanh0127, @RudyHellio, @ForeverKith, @kstene, and @patsyterrell for their submissions and to @VincentWaller72 for the wonderful drawings this week.  Your contributions make a huge difference, and give the members of the Robot Skeleton Army so much to enjoy.  Thank you![/stextbox]

We’re Doin’ Fine, Thackerville
The first leg of Craig Ferguson‘s 2012 Live Comedy Tour rolled through Wichita, Kansas on Friday and wraps up Saturday night at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Before leaving Des Moines on Thursday night, Craig stopped for a bite at an Iowa barbecue hot spot:

Just had dinner @ Jethro’s in Des Moines. Spectaular. If you’re in Iowa have some hot meat there. Also some food. #standardjokeformat

Happy Birthday, Ted
January 25th may be Robert Burns‘ birthday but January 26th is Ted Alexandro‘s birthday!  He tweeted on Thursday:

The kind folks at Hoyt Sherman Place (tipped off by @philcottone) gave me the royal birthday treatment! Many thanks!! http://pic.twitter.com/XDt7rlXE

And the backstage treats were just the beginning, because as you can see the photo captured by the RSA’s @bgrhubarb, Craig led the audience in Des Moines in song:

@CraigyFerg just led 1250 people singing happy birthday to me in Des Moines @HoytSherman! Really awesome.

On Friday, Craig tweeted from Kansas:

So far Wichita seems to be a town full of friendly hipsters. Kind of like chilly Austin TX. Once more my preconceived notions are bullshit.

Craig in Des Moines
The RSA”s @bgrhubarb captured some outstanding pictures of Craig on stage and shared them with us:

Haunted Hotel
The RSA’s @VincentWaller72 heard that Craig spent the night in a haunted hotel in Omaha Wednesday night and drew his interpretation of the scene:

Cussy But Funny
The Omaha World-Herald reviewed Craig’s Wednesday show, saying he may cuss a lot but he sure is funny. We can’t argue with that.

Behind the Scenes in Paris
Eurokelly @RudyHellio got some great video behind the scenes during Craig’s week in Paris last June and set them to music. He re-posted them for fans to enjoy:

Tonight’s Guests

The final episode of this week’s rebroadcast of the “Le Late Late Show” in Paris features a conversation with shoe designer Christian Louboutin and Craig’s performance with the dancers at the Moulin Rouge (from August 5, 2011).

Cowtown Comedy
Craig Ferguson‘s Live Comedy Tour departed Des Moines on Thursday evening, en route to Wichita, Kansas, for a Friday night show at the Orpheum Theater.  The Wichita Eagle newspaper interviewed Craig as a preview to the show.  The Des Moines Register talked with Craig before Thursday’s show as well.

Meanwhile, Craig is keeping up his daily tweets from the road.  We’re beginning to think he planned this tour just so he could have breakfast at a Cracker Barrel restaurant every morning:

No sleep last night in extremely creepy haunted Hotel Deco in Omaha. Cheered up by visit to Cracker Barrel in Council Bluffs Iowa. #glam

But he also gets to enjoy some of the benefits of a road trip, like checking out the great museums along the way.  We particularly like Craig’s track suit pants as he stands in front of an A7-D Corsair II:

http://twitpic.com/8bzsc8 At the (very cool) Iowa Aviation Museum with @philcottone & @tedalexandro. Thanks for the tour LeeAnne.

Craig’s opening act, comedian Ted Alexandro is sharing pictures along the way as well, this time with Craig in front of the museum’s 1929 Stearman C3-R:

Craig even added a picture from the Des Moines show after stepping off the stage of the Hoyt Sherman Theater:

Pythons To Appear Together Again
The surviving members of Britain’s famed Monty Python comedy troupe will appear in a film together, reports Yahoo.com via the trade magazine Variety. They caution that while they will be on screen together and it will be directed by Terry Jones, it won’t be a Python-esque film per se, just a funny one.

A Horse at the Door

A California woman riding her horses across California to protest new legislation allowing expanded horse meat exports from the US, tells the website LAist.com that while she’s in LA, she wants to catch a taping of the LLS.

Toby Keith Gets Noms
Frequent Late Late Show guest Toby Keith picked up a three of nominations for this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, including Video of the Year for “Red Solo Cup,” which features Craig and Geoff Peterson!  His song is also nominated for Single of the Year and his nightclub, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Minneapolis, Minnesota is nominated to be the ACM’s Nightclub of the Year.  Unfortunately, the video and nightclub awards are handed out off-camera but you can watch to see if Toby picks up the Single award on the ACM telecast April 1st on CBS.  The ACMs even hand out a Best Casino Award, and the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma is nominated this year.  Craig will be there on Saturday.

If you haven’t seen it, check out “Red Solo Cup” and watch for Craig and Geoff:

Tonight’s Guests
“Le Late Late Show” continues from Paris on Thursday, when Craig and Kristen Bell tour the Palace of Versailles with TV Presenter/French royalty expert Stéphane Berne (from August 4, 2011).  Then on Friday, the look back at Paris wraps up with Craig’s performance at the Moulin Rouge and a chat with shoe designer Christian Louboutin (from August 5, 2011).

Guest Update

Carol Burnett

Added to the upcoming guest list for the Late Late Show are musician Weird Al Yankovic (we know the RSA’s @SariesWick is happy about that), legendary actress Carol Burnett and singer/actress Joss Stone. You can always find the latest listings on our Guests page.

We Are From I-Oh-Way
After a fun night in Omaha on Wednesday evening, Craig Ferguson moves his Live Comedy Tour a few miles east along Interstate 80 on Thursday, to perform at the Hoyt Sherman Theater in Des Moines, Iowa.  On Tuesday night, St. Louis enjoyed Craig’s show, as reported in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  And on Wednesday, the Omaha World-Herald had a short Q & A with Craig.

Burns Night
Craig was kind enough to remind us that January 25th is the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns.  On the way to Omaha, he thought of a way to have fun with his opening act and road manager:

Happy birthday Rab. // Burns’ Day. St Louis – Omaha. 7hr bus ride I’ll fill by reciting old Scots poems to @tedalexandro & @philcottone . They seem excited.  //  The Burns’ poem I shall recite today is entitled “Nine Inch Will Please A Lady”. #realpoem. #notajoke #true

The RSA’s General @Malinky2Stoatir found the poem in question and posted a link.  And on the bus Wednesday, comedian Ted Alexandro tweeted about Craig’s recitations:

The Inferno is on to Omaha. 7 hr drive ahead. @craigyferg is going on about “O my Love’s like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June”

A Red Red Rose is one of Burns’ most famous poems.  Just before Wednesday night’s show, Craig retweeted @badastronomer and added some commentary:

“@BadAstronomer: Somehow, tweeting “PUEBLO I AM IN YOU” sounds dirty.”Not as dirty as “Omaha, I’ll be in your Orpheum tonight!”. #whichIwill

Puppets Rock
An article in the Seattle Times says puppets and marionettes seem to be on the rise in America and credits Craig among the reasons why.

Garbage Rocks, Too
The RSA’s @MissGraoully spotted an article on nme.com, which says the band Garbage will soon release it’s first album in five years. You may recall that the band’s singer, frequent LLS guest Shirley Manson, told Craig a while ago that the band has been on an extended hiatus while its members worked on other projects, including her television show, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Burns and Haggis
Last year on Burns night, Craig gave us a rundown of the January 25th tradition, the man it honors and of course, the haggis.

Video courtesy: TVsCraigFerguson2

Tonight’s Guests
It’s “Le Late Late Show” from Paris all this week, continuing Wednesday, when Craig visits the Louvre, has a great conversation with Jean-Michel Cousteau and introduces us to cheesemaker Marie-Anne Cantin (from August 3, 2011).  Then on Thursday, Craig and Kristen Bell tour the Palace of Versailles with TV Presenter/French royalty expert Stéphane Berne (from August 4, 2011).

The Big O (No, Not That One)

After appearing at the Pageant in St. Louis on Tuesday evening, Craig Ferguson heads for cattle country as his Live Comedy Tour makes a stop at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska.

Craig has been tweeting from the road, sending pictures and thoughts along the way, including a retweet of his opening act this week, comedian Ted Alexandro, who got a picture of the tour bus they’re riding:

“@tedalexandro:”home”for the week. Sex,drugs & rock-n-roll or naps,multi-vitamins &quiet reading? http://pic.twitter.com/LXHWDOf6” Snacks & bedazzling

From the bus window, Craig captured the moment of crossing the Mississippi River:

http://twitpic.com/8bajwg Arriving St Louis.

He also offered his take on the cover art from Michael Ian Black’s new book:

Just seen the cover of the @michaelianblack book. I’m kicking myself for not having him do the cover of my book. Amazing bench pose work.

And in response to his Twitter friend @badastronomer (astronomer Phil Plait), who was talking about the solar winds that have been creating the recent northern lights and messing with electronic communications the past few days, Craig replied:

“@BadAstronomer: RT @shiftyphil: What effect will the coronal mass ejection have on @GeoffTheRobot?” He’ll probably break out in innuendo

Meanwhile, pictures and stories are rolling in from Craig’s tour, including one from St. Louis native @HMSFox, who sent us a picture of the poster for Craig’s show at The Pageant on Tuesday evening.   We haven’t heard from anyone who attended the show in Biloxi.  But the RSA’s @shananigan93 was in the audience in Birmingham and sent us this account:

Birmingham in ‘Bama
[stextbox id=”custom”]
Hi! I was lucky to attend Craig’s show in Birmingham!  I barely passed the age requirement to enter the club and it was my first time seeing Craig so I was pretty stoked (to say the least).

We had fantastic seats, right in front by the stage entrance, which came in handy later.  Rory Scovel did in fact open for Craig.  He was great!  Then Craig came on stage.

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t smiling. One thing that the Alabama crowd really loved was when Craig mumbled “Roll Tide” (the motto of the Alabama Crimson Tide) in his Southern accent.  He said he wanted to get a flag that said “Roll Tide” when he cussed on the LLS.

A very nice lady at our table happened to bring a rather larger-than-life-size styrofoam cutout of Craig’s head.  She said she wanted to draw his attention and well, it worked.  She had it laying on the table and during the show he finally looked down and said,  “What is that?  Give it to me!”  He showed everyone in the crowd and asked, “Why do you even have this?!”  He then gives it back to her and told her to put it somewhere he couldn’t see it.

At the end of the show, Craig was asked to sign something and did, which encouraged more people to come to the stage.  Trying to leave, he said he had to get to Nashville.  At that point, I was standing at the stage where he would leave with my copy of American On Purpose and a Sharpie,  hoping he would look down and see me.  He did!  I actually thought he was going to tell me he had to go but to my surprise he said, “Okay,” grabbed my book and signed it, probably because I was practically begging him with my eyes.  I said, “Thank you so much.”  He said a kind, “You’re welcome,” and turned to walk away, nearly forgetting he still had my Sharpie.  But he remembered and tossed it back to me.

Best night ever.  My newly autographed book is now sitting next to my snake mug.  I can’t wait to see him again!  He was hilarious… of course, I never doubted that he would be! [/stextbox]

Nashville Nights
The following night, the RSA’s @GlitteryGirrll got to see Craig perform at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. She wrote:

[stextbox id=”custom”]
I was at Nashville show, was hilarious as expected. This was my first experience of Craig live and I LOVED every minute of it.

Ted Alexandro opened for him and did a great job “warming” us up!

Craig entered the stage following an exciting entrance of darkening of the hall and special lighting effects.  Of course we gave him a standing ovation.   He brought down the house with local humor about our Southern accents that he jokingly said he can’t seem to understand.

He laughed at some of his own jokes and even said after one he would have to leave it in, so apparently a new joke for the road was created.  He was heckled at end of show by audience members by asking him to play the mouth organ before leaving the stage.  Instead, he responded by saying he would do an awkward pause, which wasn’t so awkward and wasnt too much of a pause, either.  He left stage to another standing ovation.

My seat put me right at eye level with him.  I laughed ’til I cried, laughed ’til I squeeked and loved EVERY minute!  [/stextbox]

It’s Picture Time!
While at the show in Nashville, the RSA’s @bgrhubarb and @adnamay took some wonderful photos that they’ve graciously shared with us:

[ssg-superb-slideshow=5=600=400=7000=750=0=NO]

Craig and Trace Have Dinner
If you remember, Craig tweeted on Monday that he planned to have dinner with singer Trace Adkins after his Monday night show in Nashville.  The RSA’s very talented @VincentWaller72, who directed and wrote on the cult cartoon classic Ren and Stimpy, decided to draw what that dinner may have looked. It looks like Craig might become the meal if he isn’t careful! To see more of Vincent’s great work, check out his blog.

Tonight’s Guests
The Late Late Show is revisiting Paris this week.  Tuesday’s show features Kristen Bell, Eddie Izzard and actor Jean Reno (from August 2, 2011).  And on Wednesday, Craig visits the Louvre, plays in the pond with Jean-Michel Cousteau and relates the story of cheesemaker Marie-Anne Cantin (from August 3, 2011).

And a final note from CBS, with whom we join in offering our congratulations:

Congratulations Melissa McCarthy from #MikeAndMolly on being nominated for an Academy Award for #Bridesmaids!
