Tour Time
As the first leg of Craig Ferguson‘s 2012 live comedy tour approaches, we took a quick swing through the box offices of the venues he’ll be playing. Tickets are still available for most shows, with the possible exception of Birmingham, Alabama which now appears to be nearly sold out. Please check with the box office to see if any tickets become available at the last minute. There are only about 200 seats left in Nashville and less than a hundred remaining in Des Moines. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Happy 90th, Betty!
Betty White turns 90 years old on Tuesday. NBC celebrated a day early with a two-hour special. We want to add our congratulations and best wishes to Betty for continued success!

Missing Doctor Who Script

The folks at DoctorWhoNews.net have a story about a long-lost Doctor Who radio script written and recorded but never broadcast by the BBC.

Sorbo’s Book
Kevin Sorbo‘s book hit the shelves late last year.  In it, he talks about suffering a series of strokes while starring in Hercules in the 1990’s.  People Magazine interviewed him when the book was coming out.

Monday on the Late Late Show, actress Lucy Liu and actor Kevin Sorbo are on the show.  Tuesday, Craig’s guests are actor Colin Firth and Entertainment Weekly entertainment editor Lynette Rice.

Craig Plays True or Not True
Craig had a little fun on his Sunday evening, watching the Golden Globes and tweeting about the participants:

Wow! I just found out the sun baby from Teletubbies grew up to be @RickyGervais. But now I look at him I can sort of see it. #TrueOrNotTrue // Also just found out Val Kilmer was the original drummer for Hootie and the Blowfish.

He added at theory about the origins of Starfleet Command:

Just rewatched JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie. Realized Starfleet Command probably evolved from @MythBusters M5. Mind blown #TrueOrNotTrue

The “M5” to which he refers is Mythbuster Jamie Hyneman‘s special effects company, M5 Industries in San Francisco. San Francisco is also headquarters for Starfleet Command. Craig, you may be on to something here.

Scottish Snark
The Scottish press doesn’t mind talking about Craig from time to time but they can’t resist being catty when they do it. Read today’s article in the Sun newspaper with the appropriate grain of salt.

Wallace Letter

Photo: Jeff J. Mitchell

One of the few known artifacts connected to Scottish hero William Wallace has finally been returned to Scotland. The 700 year-old letter, written on behalf of King Philip IV of France, expresses and urges support for Wallace’s efforts to fight against England. It is considered to be one of the few documents Wallace himself may have carried in his travels and may have been in his possession when he was captured in 1305. It was discovered in the 1830’s in the Tower of London and will be on display at the Scottish parliament building later this year. Thanks to the RSA’s @sumdude for the link.

Cool Video of the Week
Photographer Kien Lam took a year to travel the world and take some great pictures. He has compiled a video to highlight his work (with music written by his brother) and the result is wonderful.

Contract Media Frenzy, No New Details
More media outlets are jumping in to cover contract discussions between CBS, David Letterman and Craig Ferguson.  We talked last time about Bill Carter’s New York Times blog, which updated the status of the talks.  Among those picking up on the story Friday were Entertainment Weekly, The CelebrityCafe.com,  Perez Hilton, Deadline.com, the Vancouver Sun, NASDAQ.com, Reuters, DigitalSpy.com, WallStreetCheatSheet.com, TheAtlanticWire.com, and MarketWatch.com.  We’ll continue to monitor the story for anything new to pass along.

Hugh’s Unchained Heart
The Huffington Post enjoyed Hugh Laurie‘s performance on Thursday’s show.

2 of my favorites @IMKristenBell and @LouieAnderson on the show tonight. Both spunky and fun and sexy but only one has giant boobies.

The Future of Craig and Dave
The New York Times expert on late night television, Bill Carter reports in his blog that CBS is close to signing David Letterman for another two year contract extension which would keep him at the network into 2014.  If Dave signs the deal and stays on, it would allow him to host late night television shows for 32 years (11 on NBC and 21 on CBS), surpassing the 30-year mark attained by his idol, Johnny Carson.  Carter also notes in his article that discussions are continuing with Craig Ferguson, whose contract time frame mirrors Letterman’s.  Carter points out that while Craig has a clause in his contract that would allow him to take over for Dave upon his retirement, our favorite Scot may not necessarily decide to do so.  Carter says negotiations currently under way with Craig may include not only a salary increase but a request for a bigger production budget for the Late Late Show.  Among the media outlets picking up on Carter’s post Thursday were The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Gothamist.com, the Wall Street Journal, the Huffington Post, TV.com, TVGuide.com and Deadline.com.  The conventional wisdom is that Craig, recently remarried and enjoying family life in Los Angeles, is in a good place right now.  Another two years of doing the show and touring with stand up shows would seem to be the logical path.  On the other hand, Craig is known for zigging when other zag.  We’ll keep you posted.

Tour Ahead
Craig Ferguson kicks off his 2012 live stand up comedy tour with a nine-day run through the Southeast and Midwest, January 20th through the 28th. Tickets are available for all shows, with details on our Live Comedy Tour page. It does not appear that the crew at the Late Late Show have been stockpiling many shows this month, so we’ll likely get a visit from the re-run fairy January 23rd-27th, before resuming all-new episodes for the February television ratings period. We’ll post the details as soon as we get the word.  In the meantime, guests are already being lined up for February, as we note at the bottom of today’s news.
