Neville’s Novel05 Stuart Neville
Earlier this week, National Public Radio interviewed author Stewart Neville about his novel The Ghosts of Belfast, which is the basis of the upcoming film Last Man Out, for which Craig Ferguson and LLS writer Ted Mulkerin wrote the screenplay. The website Slate.com also named the book one of its picks for summer reading.

Possible Geoff Book?
Geoff Book TitleThe RSA’s @HoboRobot couldn’t resist coming up with a book dust jacked based on Geoff shaking his head at Craig’s “geezer” ramblings during the monologue:

Saw this book in Lakeside Catalog and had to have some fun with it. #2good2ignore @joshrthompson @rsa_news #rsa pic.twitter.com/ttRWXlAinh

Who Writes?
Craig comes up with the perfect response to a poorly-worded tweetmail question.

McGregor and Welsh on the Tweety05 Ewan McGregor
Craig hasn’t called his Twitter followers his ‘skeleton army’ for a while, but he did on Tuesday, urging his minions to follow Scottish actor Ewan McGregor:

Sassy & fragrant Caledonian movie star is on the twatster. To him my skeleton army! To him I say!

McGregor saw Craig’s tweet and replied:

back at you Big Man. Here’s tae us….. Etc etc etc. x.

Craig then urged the hollowed out volcano to follow novelist Irvine Welsh, author of the seminal Scottish tome Trainspotting:

Scottish genius story maker- upper also in in twatistan. Follow him if ye dare ye skeleton hoardes.

Geoff Love
06 Geoff Petersen Grant Imahara (1)Josh Robert Thompson, voice and puppeteer of Geoff Peterson spotted our story last time about the origins of Geoff. We included a video clip from Grant Imahara demonstrating the capabilities of the first version of the robot skeleton sidekick. Josh corrected us on a detail about how Geoff is controlled and adding the perfect Beavis and Butthead-style joke in the process (at least that’s how we imagine it sounding):

thanks for the Geoff love! (It’s not an iPad, though–it’s a radio control unit. Heh heh. Unit.)

Let Bygones Be BygonesCraig on Bygones
The other day, Craig responded to a tweet from British comedian Danny Baker who sent a photo taken in the mid 90s. Craig was captain of a team on a short-lived game show called Bygones, in which contestants answered music and popular culture questions from the past. The RSA’s Natalie found a partial clip of the show. It starts part way into the game and the other team takes the first turn. About two minutes in, you’ll see Craig leading his team guessing the music being performed and taking the lead.

Sharing Stories
04 Lynn Ferguson
Craig Ferguson‘s sister Lynn recently blogged about the importance of sharing stories and how sharing them in person sometimes still works just fine.

British Comedy InvasionCraig Stand Up
The Radio Times takes note of the growing role of comedians from the UK in American comedy. In an interview, Shane Allen, head of comedy programming for the BBC, has nice things to say about Craig.

Geoff’s Origins
The Mythbusters Grant Imahara built Geoff Peterson in 2010. Today, Josh Robert Thompson voices and puppeteers Geoff using a live microphone and an a remote control unit. But in the early days, Geoff had a limited range of motion and had seven recorded phrases, voiced by Craig himself. Grant demonstrates the first control panel which was designed to be located behind Craig’s desk.

Hooray! I didn’t even know I was nominated. In your face other dads .

Joke of the Day02 Craig Ferguson (34)
Last week, Craig was once again honored with the “joke of the day” by the Chicago Tribune. Thanks to the RSA’s Ruth for spotting it!

Tickets Selling Quickly
03 Craig On Stage Carnegie (27) smallerWhen Canadians hear that Craig Ferguson will be touring the Great White North, they don’t waste time. Tickets for Craig’s October 19th show in Winnipeg sold out in less than an hour, reports the Winnipeg Free Press. And the October 22nd show in Edmonton is sold out as well. There’s no word on whether a second show might be added in either city but we’ll keep an eye out for it and let you know. Craig’s show in Calgary is nearly sold out, and tickets are selling well at every other Canadian tour stop. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Craig Tweets
Craig responded to a pair of tweets Friday. One came from a confused fan:

“: you are hilarious in !. Great film” Thanks. I loved it too.

The other came from British comedian and radio host Danny Baker, who sent out a photo of Craig taken in 1994, on the set of a short-lived BBC game show called Bygones.  Baker hosted. Rick Wakeman, an English musician best know as the keyboardist for the band Yes, was captain of one three-person team and Craig was captain of the other.

The game centered around nostalgia, hence the “Bygones” name. Over the course of four rounds, the teams would make guesses about old products, film clips, songs and celebrities.  The reason the head of 1940?s bandleader Ted Heath is in the photo is because in one round of the game, the teams were shown waxwork heads of celebrities from the past and earned points if they guessed their identity correctly. The game show ran for just a single series of five episodes in the spring of 1994.

Craig’s reaction centered on his haircut in the photo:

“: You were also hilarious on Bygones with ” Oh Lordy! Why Danny?

Our thanks to to UKGameShows.com for details about the show.

Daffy Dook
Right before Christmas last year, Craig and Geoff Peterson exchanged yule logs and cracked each other up over the famous German cartoon character, “Daffy Dook.”

Making Us Laugh
Craig NFL slCanada’s Globe and Mail newspaper had the most complete interview of Craig Ferguson this week, as he accepted the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award at the Banff World Media Festival. He talks about the evolution of the Late Late Show and his relationship with the audience. We’ve been keeping our eyes open for a complete video of Craig’s appearance at Banff, but so far, it has not appeared. A few brief clips are floating around YouTube. We’re also watching for Canada’s Entertainment Tonight interview with Craig. They have posted a Canadian version but it is not visible outside of Canada. If an internationally-viewable version becomes available, we’ll include it here.

Starring Jimmy FallonJimmy Fallon
The website enstars.com reports that when the new version of NBC’s Tonight Show debuts in early 2014, it will be titled The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The show’s most recent two hosts, Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien used the tag “with” rather than “starring,” which was last used when Johnny Carson held the job.

Lenny the Wonder Dog
Back in 2005, Craig appeared in a film called Lenny the Wonder Dog, which did not earn him an Oscar but did have some great laughs. He gets to sing, and has a great dance number. Watch for a cameo by his Drew Carey Show castmate Kathy Kinney and be sure to stick around for the bloopers at the end.
