He will replace Matt Smith<\/strong>, who will end his run in the iconic role at the end of the year. The BBC posted a full report<\/a>. Entertainment Weekly<\/a> reported on the announcement and Capaldi’s Whovian credentials. The series has been on television for many of the past 50 years, with different actors portraying the time-traveling doctor. The character periodically regenerates, giving the show’s writers a way to explain the doctor’s different faces and personalities.\r\n\r\nUpon hearing the news, Craig tweeted:\r\n\r\n
